Abstract

Aims

To introduce the Mierau Medical Diagnostic and Coding Method (MMDCM), a methodological framework for longitudinal medical knowledge modelling that distinguishes medical reality from its evolving interpretation over time.

Methods

MMDCM combines structured medical data, diagnostic evidence, temporal context, and multiple information sources within a Delta Logic framework. The method is formalized through fifteen foundational postulates and implemented in a structured relational database.

Results

MMDCM enables medical knowledge to evolve without rewriting historical records. It preserves previous states of knowledge, documents the evidence available at each point in time, and integrates new findings into a longitudinal model of clinical understanding.

Conclusions

MMDCM provides a conceptual framework for documenting and analyzing dynamic medical knowledge while maintaining historical transparency. The approach may also be applicable beyond medicine wherever knowledge evolves over time.
